In
his Condition of the State Address on Tuesday, January 14, 2003, Governor
Tom Vilsack stated "the vital role of nonprofit organizations
in our State must be clearly understood and actively supported. Nonprofit
organizations are often small and may need technical assistance and
help. All of us need to help them. I have asked Willard "Sandy"
Boyd, President Emeritus of the University of Iowa, Director of the
Iowa Nonprofit Resource Center, to chair a task force to be appointed
for this purpose, to lay out strategies how we can strengthen nonprofits
in our State."
With
his departure from the interim presidency of the University of Iowa
on March 1, 2003, Mr. Boyd is beginning to move forward on this
task force. The importance of the task force is to raise awareness
throughout Iowa of the importance of the nonprofit sector in our
community, our State and our Nation. The Governor's initiative will
stress the importance of the nonprofit sector to all Iowans and
strengthen connections with business and all levels of government.
Your suggestions for issues you feel are important and should be
addressed through the task force would greatly be appreciated. You
